| Saint John´s Parish |
| Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil - Anglican Diocese of São Paulo |
Saint John´s Parish was founded in January of 1933 and, at this time, it was one of the first Christian churches among the Japanese communion in São Paulo. Since this time it became the main point of missionary enlargement to other cities in of São Paulo State and other states in Brazil, for families immigrated from Japan.
The new and modern Temple replaced other three ones built in the same place, during the story of Saint John´s Parish. |

The first scenery for the Services was an old bricks factory, where the Church was founded. Revd. João Yasoji Ito, its founder immigrated from Japan, started, at this time, the missionary work. The second Church was a building ended in 1947, designed by Takeshi Suzuki, the first architect graduated in Brazil in this profession. The third Temple was built in 1968 and expropriated and demolished in 1995, due to the enlargement of Faria Lima Avenue. |
Since a long time, Saint John´s Parish is no more "the Japanese Church", as it was known in Pinheiros. Today it is completely integrated in the São Paulo community, but it did not lost its historical identity.
We can say that the congregation of São João is a "Metropolitan Parish", because people related to it come from several districts of the city and from other neighboring cities. |
